The first presidential debate
President Barack Obama and former governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney - the Democratic and Republican rivals in the 2012 US presidential election - faced off in Denver, Colorado last night for the first of three debates that could prove critical in the close-fought election.
Each of the debates focuses on a different theme; the first one was on domestic policy, covering many of the campaign's biggest issues, including the economy, jobs and healthcare.
