Anna Chapman: Russia's not-so-secret weapon
Russian spy Anna Chapman came to notoriety when her identity was revealed by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as being a member of the 'Illegals Program', a network of ten deep-cover sleeper agents illegally spying in the United States for the Russian Federation.
In what has become the largest espionage scandal of recent years, perhaps since the Cold War ended, Chapman - born Anna Vasil'yevna Kuschyenko - was arrested after being lured into a trap by FBI agents over a false passport ("Operation Ghost Story"). She had been passing information to her handlers at the SVR, Russia's foreign intelligence service, through encrypted computer networks.
Since her deportation to Russia in a top-level spy swap, she has since kept a high profile, with American blogs and magazines writing about the glamorous, beautiful spy and her fashion sense. She appeared on the cover of the Russian Maxim magazine in October 2010, and has performed on the runway as a catwalk model for multiple fashion shows, including one this month in Turkey.
