Over the years, when it comes to our national football team, it was always a love-hate relationship. Ranked a lowly 170th in the world in April 2008, the fans didn't put much hope every time our Harimau Malaya take part in tournaments and most of the time, a death sentence was given even before they take the field.
It's a far cry from the golden era of the 1970s and the 1980s, where our Harimau Malaya were one of Asia's most feared football teams. Led by legends Mokhtar Dahari, Soh Chin Aun and Santokh Singh, they were a force to be reckoned with. Even countries such as Japan and South Korea would bring along a rabbit's foot for good luck when they were matched against our Harimaus.
But recently, under the guidance of Datuk K. Rajagopal, our young Harimau Malaya are beginning to find their roar. Starting with the victory at the 2010 AFC Suzuki Cup, the national football team has been improving heaps and bounds, and with the fan support returning to an all-time high, it's only a matter of time before our Harimau Malaya return to its glory days.
In conjunction with our Hari Merdeka celebrations, we at MSN Sports lists down ten of our most favourite Harimau Malaya moments throughout our footballing history.
