Some 14 years ago, NASA began to explore the sky in a way never done before. Though until now, the results of the mission, which aimed to use infra-red imagining to map what lies above us, were hidden from much of the world.
Now we see. The famed space agency recently released the results from its Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission, an initiative that snapped some 2.7 million images of the sky, capturing everything from nearby asteroids to distant galaxies. After nearly a decade and a half in the making, here are some of the most jaw-dropping pics from WISE of the great unknown.
