Najib said the country's success was due to hard work and should be maintained and protected in the best manner so that the effort was not be in vain.

"Our success in the past few decades did not come on a silver platter. It also did not come in a blink of an eye. If it is not properly looked after, it will disappear in a flash.

"That is why, Your Majesty's government will never allow the nation that had been built through sweat and tears to be destroyed by irresponsible parties," he said when delivering his congratulatory speech to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in Istana Negara.

At the same event, the late ASP Mohd Zabri Abdul Hamid, a fallen hero in an operation to flush out communist insurgents in 1975, and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar headed the list of 1,622 recipients of federal awards and medals conferred by Tuanku Halim today.

Zabri, VAT 69 Commando platoon commander, was killed when he stepped on a booby trap, received the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP) award while Khalid was bestowed with the Darjah Panglima Mangku Negara (PMN) which carries the title “Tan Sri”.

The SP award is the highest and most distinguished federal award. Another 46 people received the Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) award, which carries the title “Tan Sri”. – Bernama, June 7, 2014.
